Rider biomechanics is a complex and multifaceted area. To genuinely support riders in becoming more aware, biomechanically efficient, and capable of riding with optimal form, it’s essential to assess the rider as a whole. All too often, riders are given generic instructions like “sit up” or “put your heels down.” But from a biomechanical perspective, what movement patterns do these cues actually trigger? And are they even achievable without taking the entire body into account?

About us

Centaur Biomechanics was found in 2006 by Dr. Russell MacKechnie-Guire who graduated from Warwickshire College in 2006 with a BSc (Hons) in Equine and Human Sports Science and now holds a PhD in Equine Biomechanics graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 2019. Russell’s thesis was titled ‘The Relationship between Saddle and Rider Kinematics, Equine Locomotion, and Thoracolumbar Pressures in Sports Horses’.
